Cape Verde

In the former Portuguese colony, which used to be the hub of the slave trade and exile for the religiously persecuted, various customs, traditions and genes merged since 1461 to form a completely new culture, the Creole. Cape Verde Islands are a melting pot of world music as well: Violin sounds mix with African drums, fado meets polka and musical styles such as morna, batuko and fuana emerge as a result. Cesária Évora is the most famous performer and is still revered as the “Queen of Morna”.
